HRCS Round 7 Report

November 1, 2015

Research from Round 7 of the Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS) answers two questions: How do HR professionals deliver value, and how do HR departments deliver value?

For over 30 years, the Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS) has empirically defined the competencies of HR professionals and how those HR professionals impact performance. Conducted by The RBL Group in partnership with the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan along with 23 regional partners, the study surveyed over 30,000 respondents rating the competencies and performance of more than 4,000 HR professionals from more than 1,500 organizations.

This report contains the findings from Round 7 of the research study. It identifies the nine competencies HR professionals must have to deliver value and examines which competencies most impact the performance of individual HR professionals and which competencies most impact the performance of HR departments. The report also shows the ever-increasing importance of effective HR departments in creating value for key stakeholders.

The results simultaneously build upon insights from prior rounds and generate new insights for HR. This research can help HR professionals and departments learn how to utilize their expanding role to meet broader business challenges.
