Abdulmajeed Albalushi


Abdulmajeed has been partnering on RBL projects for the past three years as a client side manager and leader of organizational transformation & development projects. Abdulmajeed has transitioned from the internal client side of projects and is now a Principal Consultant for RBL. He is working on organizational transformation and development projects throughout the GCC. 

Abdulmajeed is a highly sought-after business manager with a strong track record of managing and leading change. He brings over a decade of GCC experience in organizational transformation, business management, and business analysis. He has worked in many sectors and industries including Civil Service, Infrastructure, Information Technology, Oil & Energy, Maritime & Shipping, Mining & Metal, Investment and Management Consultancy. Abdulmajeed began working with RBL in 2012 when Oman Oil Company partnered with RBL for an HR Transformation project. Throughout this engagement Abdulmajeed was Oman Oil Company’s internal project leader for this highly visible and successful transformation. Upon completion of this project, Abdulmajeed was assigned to be the Manager of Shared Services and then the Head of Functional Services where he helped many of Oman Oil Subsidiaries in Oman, UAE, Germany, USA and Spain.

Abdulmajeed has significant experience as an internal HR Manager and is well versed in many facets of Human Resources. He has helped five organizations implement and roll out their HRMS systems, most recently completing this assignment for Takatuf. He has implemented salary structures using Hay and Mercer methodologies in numerous companies and is very capable at implementing and developing strong rewards systems. In several past positions with GCC companies he has been instrumental in designing and implementing HR policies & manuals.

Adam Rampton

Managing Director

As the Managing Director for The RBL Group in the Middle East, Adam works with clients throughout the region to advance business objectives through leadership development and strategic alignment of Human Resources.

Prior to joining The RBL Group, Adam successfully led a group of companies as the General Manager through key change initiatives with a focus on streamlining operational processes and expanding the business in the western United States.  Adam also worked for General Electric (GE) where he graduated from GE’s HR Leadership Program and help roles of increasing responsibility in a variety of industries including financial services, healthcare, and oil and gas.  In these roles, Adam partnered with senior business leaders to achieve business objectives and build organizational capabilities by aligning and leading human resources activities such as succession planning, leadership development, performance management, staffing, and development of compensation and incentive programs.

Adam earned an MBA from the University of Notre Dame and has over 13 years results-focused experience partnering with global business leaders.  He is fluent in Romanian and has lived in a number of countries including the United Arab Emirates, United States, Canada, Romania, and Italy.  He is currently based in Dubai, UAE.

Allan Freed

As the Principal Consultant in RBL’s European office Allan manages consulting and executive education programs delivered to our European clients.  Since joining RBL in 2008 he has worked with over 100 organizations based in the region on HR transformation, HR strategy development, HR executive education and leadership development projects.

In addition to his work in Europe, Allan has worked extensively in the Middle East, Asia, Australia and North America, helping HR leaders transform and quantify the value they create.  He has led major HR strategy development projects, spearheaded the design of RBL’s HR Academy concept and managed a large number of executive education programs across industry sectors.

Ammaron Lucas

Principal, Europe

Ammaron is a Principal with RBL in Europe, focusing on leadership development, HR transformation, HR strategy, HR business partner development, organization design including culture and behavioural frameworks, restructuring and performance management.

Prior to joining RBL, Ammaron worked as the European HR Director for a global-not-for-profit organization and as an HR consultant in both the public and private sectors. In these roles, Ammaron partnered with senior business leaders to achieve business objectives and build organizational capabilities by aligning and leading human resources activities such as succession planning, leadership development, performance management, staffing and talent management, and development of compensation and reward programs.

Receiving his education in England, Ammaron earned an MBA from the University of Leicester, a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (MCIPD) and has over 13 years results-focused experience.

Ammaron is certified in the RBL Leadership Code 360 and MENTOR® leadership assessment tool which specifically targets identifying the key leadership attributes that predict leader success in both public and private sector organizations.

He has worked extensively throughout the UK and Europe and has also delivered in both the Middle East and the USA and enjoys both watching and playing football and going on family hikes with his wife and children.


Ben Grimm

Client Partner

Ben Grimm is a Client Partner for the RBL Group.  In his role as a Client Partner, Ben focuses on building new client relationships with world class companies; increasing the contribution of people to the business by aligning the organizations benefits and offerings that helps create high performance cultures. 

Ben has almost two decades of successful sales and consulting experience working with other world class companies in the industries of tech, healthcare, consumer goods, and more. Ben brings a vast perspective to the industry that allows him to customize services to businesses across all industries. Ben received his undergraduate degree from Weber State University and his MBA from Brigham Young University. Ben lives in Salt Lake City and is married with four children. He enjoys spending time with his family and considers himself a continuous learner.

Christine Cleemann

Regional Managing Director, RBL Scandinavia

Christine Cleemann is the Regional Managing Director of RBL Scandinavia. In her work she is focused on customer-based solutions in leadership, global people development, commercial skills training, self leadership practices and HR innovation. For the past 5 years Christine has worked with RBL clients across the World in various industries helping business leaders and HR professionals increase their impact and build results with key stakeholders inside and outside their company.

Before joining RBL Christine previously served as General Manager of Global HR Capabilities in the multinational energy and transportation corporation A. P. Moller – Maersk in charge of global talent programs and HR organization development. She also worked as General Manager for Damco International and for the Danish Telecom company TDC. Additionally, she brings more than 14 years of consulting experience.

Christine has an MBA in international business and HR. She holds a Ph.D. in entrepreneurship and management studies from the Copenhagen Business School.

Darin Pauley


Darin Pauley is a Principal with The RBL Group. He consults extensively with both public and private sector clients, focused on leadership and talent development, organizational design, change management and strategy activation. Darin’s experience spans emerging markets, serving the Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Russia markets while Dubai based for nearly a decade, as well as mature markets while US based with global responsibility. 

Darin is well known for his expertise in organization design, leadership development, strategic HR and strategy activation. Prior to joining the RBL family, Darin was a top-talent while in leadership roles at General Electric and Emerson, as well as teaching and coaching at the university level. As Consulting Practice Leader for the Strategy and Leadership practice of GE Healthcare, Darin led several transformation projects with emphasis on Executive Development, Organization Design and Optimization and Strategy Assessment and Activation, for external customers. He also led the accelerated growth of multiple GE Healthcare businesses as a Regional HR Director.   

While at Emerson, Darin excelled in various HR leadership roles, from Senior Corporate Analyst to Global HR Director, and was influential leading strategic commercial initiatives aimed at developing consultative, solution selling capability.   

Darin holds a Masters of Human Resources and Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, consistently ranked one of the top Strategic HR programs in the US. He also double-majored in Psychology and Political Science at Aurora University, graduating summa cum laude. He resides in Dubai with his wife and two sons. 

Darryl Wee

Managing Director, Asia

Darryl is the managing director of The RBL Group in Southeast Asia. He has more than 20 years experience in Business Consulting, Business Development, Human Resource, Marketing, and Communications. Darryl is a dynamic team player, a strategic thinker, and a change agent who is able to distill complex situations into executable action plans to align the organization to a common goal. 

His speciality areas are in Leadership, Strategic HR and Organizational Transformation.  Prior to joining The RBL Group, he held leadership roles in PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Agilent Technologies, PA Consulting Group, Nestronics Singapore and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). 

Darryl holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Rutgers University, a Master of Science from South Bank University in London, a Bachelors of Social Science (Psychology) from the University of New South Wales in Australia, and a Graduate Diploma in International Management from the Helsinki School of Economics in Finland. He is also a certified user of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicators, DISC Target Training International, Extended DISC, CCI 360° Assessment and the PA Preference Inventory.

Erin Burns

Erin is a principal with RBL where her client work includes organization design, executive coaching, and consulting in leadership development, and Co-Faculty/Coach with Dave Ulrich at HR Learning Partnership (HRLP).  She has almost 20 years of experience in leadership development, executive coaching, and organization design and transformation consulting with clients from a range of industries.

She has worked closely with many of RBL’s research initiatives, including the Top Companies for Leaders (with AonHewitt and Fortune) and the Human Resource Competency Study (with the University of Michigan) and has been responsible for the development of new products and methodologies.

Erin has almost 20 years’ experience in leadership development and consulting, working with Fortune 500 companies from a range of industries on how to best identify and develop tomorrow’s leaders.  She is also the author of several articles, including “Competency Models with Impact” (with Dave Ulrich and Laurence Smith), “How Top Companies Develop Their Leaders” (with Robert Gandossy), “Gauging Leadership Potential” (with T. O. Ernesto Uscher

Prior to joining The RBL Group, Ernesto was Vice President & Partner of OD and Performance Consulting for HPI Colombia, a consulting firm representing RBL, DBM, SMG, Team Resources, and Bigby Havis in the region. His career started in the Business Consulting Division of Andersen, where he worked for seven years, leading to the position of Consulting Manager responsible for the Reengineering, ABC and Change Management Practices.

Ernesto Uscher is a Principal with The RBL Group where he focuses on helping organizations improve through organization and leadership development. Ernesto’s work has been a blend of Business Process Reengineering, Organization Design & Continuous Improvement with Leadership & Team Development. Ginger Bitter

Program Manager - HRLP / RBL Institute

Areas of Expertise
Ginger is the program coordinator for The RBL Institute, our premier HR development forum.  In this capacity, she oversees the Institute workshops, mini-forums, newsletters, and webcasts.  She works closely with our RBL Institute members.

Ginger also serves as the program manager and conference coordinator for The RBL Group’s public workshops.  She organizes, markets, and facilitates programs worldwide.  Some of the public workshops Ginger is involved with are “The HR Learning Partnership,” “The HR Value Proposition,” “Leadership Brand,” and “High Performance by Design.”

In addition, Ginger is the program manager for our HR Learning Partnership, an intensive two-week learning experience for high-potential and senior HR leaders.  Learning is split between classroom discussion and applied learning through a team project.  This real business project is then put into practice in the company.  The combination of joint learning and business application add significant growth to both the individual and the team.  Ginger has managed our HR Learning Partnership since its inception, 18 years ago.

Finally, Ginger serves as the program manager for our HR development experiences which are customized to meet the needs of our clients.  These experiences combine theory (new ideas), illustration (cases of companies applying the ideas), and application (tools to personalize the ideas).  Each program is based on a proven process that give participants the understanding, tools, and commitment they need to align people practices with the firm’s overall strategy, developing HR’s competency to drive business performance.

For 25 years, Ginger operated as Dave Ulrich’s executive assistant which involved coordinating his clients, presentations, and travel.

Henrick Carlsen

Henrick is a Principal with RBL in Europe, focusing on HR Strategy, HR business partner development, organization design, restructuring and performance management. 


Prior to consulting, Henrick worked more than 6 years for the Fortune 500 company A.P. Moller-Maersk, a conglomerate within Oil, shipping and retail. He served in several strategic roles both in Group functions and Business unit functions, i.e. as Head of Headquarter HR and later also as Head of Organization Design in Maersk Line. He has been leading global transformation projects
and project roll-out across several Business units and across multiple countries.

Henrick’s career includes 10 years in businesses and 10 years in consulting - latest as Partner in The Consulting Firm working primarily with strategy execution, performance management, organization design and HR strategy with international clients. He began his career in Business Development with the national mail and parcel provider Post Denmark.

Henrick is an Industrial Engineer and studied marketing in Regensburg in Germany. He also taught at MBA programs at Copenhagen Business School on Strategic HRM and Ashridge Business School in Organisation Design.

Henrick is certified in Predictive Index, Disc profile, Lomminger Leadership Competencies, Cohesive Team concept and the RBL Leadership Code 360 tool.

Jade White


Jade is a Principal of the RBL Group and has nearly 25 years in the Strategic HR, Talent Management and Leadership Development fields. He is a co-author of Global HR Competencies: Mastering Competitive Value from the Outside-In and co-developer of the IMPACT HR Business Partnering Skills framework, assessment and workshop.

Prior to joining The RBL Group in 2010, Jade held leadership roles at Mars, Allianz, Capital One and Cendant with a deep focus in Learning and Leadership Development, Talent Management, OD, Strategic HR and Business Partnering.

Jade has delivered keynote speeches and workshops for thousands of people across the globe. Clients cite his personable style and credibility with all levels, given his experience as both an HR leader and practitioner, as keys to offering practical and impactful programs, coaching and consulting services.

While based in North America, Jade has worked in nearly 30 countries with a diverse list of clients to include: AARP, Allianz, Ally Financial, American Express, AXA, Best Buy, BHP Billiton, Carnival Cruise Lines, Deutsche Bank, Estēe Lauder, Exelon, Halliburton, Hershey’s, ING, Intel, IPG, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft, Lowe’s, Manulife, Mars, Mercedes Benz, Mondelēz International, Nestlē, Novartis, Travelers Group, TVA, QVC, the United Nations and the Walt Disney Company, among others.

Jeff Hanson

Associate Principal

Jeff has worked for The RBL Group since 2012 and has worked on business transformation and strategy consulting projects across America and in Denmark, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The primary focus of his work has been on enabling large-scale growth through organizational strategy and restructuring projects. He has worked with large multinational corporations within the US (e.g. Alexion, Baxalta, Carnival Cruise Line, Hyatt Hotel Corp, Trinity Health) and with multinational and regional organizations across the Middle East (e.g. Saudi Aramco, Oman Oil Company, Mobily, Engro Foods).

Prior to joining The RBL Group, Jeff worked at the University of Utah in their Technology & Venture Commercialization department where he used lean startup methodologies to vet and validate new technologies and inventions before they went to market. Jeff has a strong background in business strategy and financial analysis. Previously, he worked as an analyst for Ford Motor Company, where he received top performance evaluations, and as an analyst for several startups. Jeff graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in from BYU’s business strategy program.

Jessica Johnson

Managing Director, North America

Jessica Johnson is The RBL Group’s Managing Director for North America.  She consults with organizations worldwide in various industries for both leadership development and strategic alignment of human resources.

Jessica serves as an executive coach, teacher, facilitator; and is dedicated to advancing the fields of Leadership and Strategic HR by connecting leaders with practical tools, leading edge theory, and opportunities to learn from each other.

She has published articles and book chapters on developing high potential employees and coaching.  A recent publication is a chapter in Marshall Goldsmith’s new book: Coaching for Leadership: Writings on Leadership from the World’s Greatest Coaches, published by Jossey-Bass.

Prior to RBL, Jessica worked with Cisco in strategic marketing.  She consulted with various stakeholders within and outside of Cisco and provided analysis to promote data-driven strategy decisions.

While at BearingPoint, a Washington DC-based consulting firm, Jessica worked both internally and consulted externally for the organization.  She managed the operations for BearingPoint’s Global Delivery Centers in India and China, and worked with a number of clients in the public sector. She provided management and technical consulting support to one of the USDA’s largest change programs designed to reengineer core internal business operations including Financial Services and Human Resources.

Jessica started off her post-graduate career working in Human Resources for civilian personnel in the US Department of the Army. Before completing her graduate degree Jessica was a live television sports producer of college football and basketball broadcasts for a regional network called SportsWest, a division of Bonneville International.
Jessica holds an MBA from Brigham Young University and lives in Springville, Utah.

Joe Grochowski

Managing Director, RBL Institute

Joe is the Managing Director of The RBL Institute – a think tank for senior HR executives from the world’s top companies.  He is an expert in designing and developing research and education forums for senior HR professionals.

Prior to joining The RBL Group, Joe was the Director of Executive Education at The Concours Group (acquired by nGenera Corporation in 2007).  During his tenure at Concours he led several leadership development programs for high potential HR and IT executives from the Global 500.

Joe also has a strong research background having served as a research analyst at The Research Board – one of the world’s leading think tanks for Fortune 200 CIOs and their direct reports.  During his tenure at The Research Board, Joe served as the Program Director of the Human Resources Management Board – a forum for IT HR professionals, which included clients from some of the world’s top companies including Wal-Mart, JP Morgan Chase, Shell, DuPont, Hoffman LaRoche, and BP.

Joe earned his B.S. in Psychology from Penn State University and a Master of Social Sciences from The University of Chicago.

Joe Hanson

CFO, Principal

Joe Hanson is the CFO for The RBL Group. He is an experienced consultant recognized for leading businesses through complex business turnarounds and successful organization transitions, as well as strategic alignment and education.

Joe has consulted with companies in industries ranging from Lodging & Entertainment and Technology to Pharmaceuticals, Energy, and Communications, addressing business turnaround strategy, organization renewal and integrated change management. He received the Exemplary Change Management Practice Citation Award in 2004 from the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) for the global restructuring of InterContinental Hotels Group, as well as the Value-add Consulting Team Award from the InterContinental Hotels Group. He developed and taught a training curriculum on Consulting Skills for Internal Professionals, delivering the course for several years to IT, HR, Process, Finance, and other internal support professionals.

He has worked as a manager for a high-growth consulting business as Managing Director, Division President, Chief Financial Officer, and Board Member. He also led client, project, and team management for intensive, global consulting engagements, including corporate turnarounds, global restructuring, new business launches, multi-business integration, support function redesign, cost reductions, and performance management and development.

Joe teaches these skills to Graduate Students at the University of Utah Eccles Graduate School of Business as an Adjunct Professor since 2006. He earned his MBA from the BYU Marriott School of Business with High Distinction, with an emphasis in Strategy and Finance, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting, with a minor in Spanish.

Justin Allen

Justin is a Principal with The RBL Group and the Head of Operations for RBL’s Leadership Practice. He is dedicated to advancing the fields of Leadership and Strategic HR by connecting leaders with practical tools, leading edge theory, and opportunities to learn from each other.

Justin specializes in working with senior leaders to clarify the business strategy, and then design systems and processes that ensure leaders consistently deliver results to fulfill promises the organization has made to investors, customers, and all stakeholders. In doing this work, Justin has collaborated with leaders from the top companies in the world, including: P&G, Goldman Sachs, Mobily, Mars, Unilever, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Nokia, CIBC, IBM, Royal Bank of Scotland, IKEA, BNP Paribas, Gap, and several others.

Prior to leading RBL’s Operations in the Leadership Practice, Justin was the Managing Director of the RBL Institute where he built a lasting network of senior HR leaders, co-authored the highly praised book, HR Transformation, and oversaw significant growth that led to the RBL Institute being named “the #1 global think tank for strategic HR.”

Justin came to RBL from GE where he was consistently rated ‘top talent’.  In his tenure at GE, Justin worked as an HR Manager in a diverse business unit where he oversaw performance management, leadership development, staffing, communications, and union relations. Justin also held a variety of other positions at GE, including a training and development role at GE Crotonville and an operations manager role in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Justin began his career as an international researcher in labor statistics and holds a master’s degree in business management and organizational behavior. Justin has enjoyed living around the world (Europe, Middle East, and North and South America) and loves going on adventures with his wife Emily and their children.

Kaylene Allsop

Program Manager

Areas of Expertise
Kaylene manages the Project team for The RBL Group.  She also manages programs and activities related to client assessments and custom client programs globally. With over 15 years of organizing and implementing client projects, Kaylene brings extensive experience dedicated to client success with leadership and strategic HR initiatives.

Kaylene has coordinated projects and events with Fortune 500 companies in a range of industries and countries including Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, and others.

Prior to joining The RBL Group, Kaylene managed internal corporate programs and events and has been the Senior executive and personal assistant to CEO’s of both public and private corporations.

Leslie Kawai


Leslie Kawai is a principal consultant with The RBL Group. She is also a principal partner and co-founder of Leverage Communications and an adjunct faculty member in the department of Organizational Leadership and Strategy at Brigham Young University’s (BYU) Marriott School of Business where she developed faculty business writing and oral-communications training and learning-outcome-assessment models as the former associate director of the management communications program. Leslie also teaches culture shock, volunteerism, and communications curriculum courses as a guest instructor for international student programs in Chicago, Washington D.C., and Boston. 

Leslie designs executive-performance, leadership development, communications strategy, and presentation-skills management consulting, with a former client list that includes American Express, DOMO, Silicon Valley Bank, SaltStack,  Silicon Slopes, and Inside Sales. Leslie is also a featured consultant with Crack the Funding Code, helping high-level entrepreneurs develop pitch presentations for raising early-stage seed funding. 

Her work has been featured in Forbes and Execunet. Leslie’s master’s degree is from BYU’s acclaimed organizational-behavior program. Leslie is highly experienced in cognitive behavior and its role in creating multimedia and communications; instructional-learning materials; and written and oral communication systems that facilitate sustained change. Leslie specializes in interpersonal and team communications systems as well as leadership-development programs.

Leslie is the former executive director of RealVictory, a non-profit organization that partnered with the Utah State Juvenile Justice Services and Adult Probation and Parole departments to research cognitive-behavior change programs to reduce recidivism among adult and juvenile criminal offenders. Leslie is co-author of Helping Offenders—What Works?

Leslie is passionate about social entrepreneurship and leadership development and currently currently serves on the board of Care Cuts, an organization that addresses homelessness and One Heart Bulgaria, a nonprofit organization that aids orphans and children with special needs in Bulgaria. Leslie has advised multiple non-profit organizations, including Soul Food USA, Promethean Spark, Musana Intl, Au Pair Weekend, and Global Education Allies.

Leslie has three children and resides in Springville, Utah

Mark Nyman

President, Organization Strategy and Design

Mark has spent his career assisting organizations in transforming themselves by creating strategic focus and then aligning the design of their organizations and/or support functions. He has used his expertise in large system change and executive development in start-ups, existing organizations, and in mergers/joint ventures settings. Mark uses high involvement as a way of building ownership and helps his clients think differently about the issues that challenge them.

He has worked with numerous clients including: Adidas, American Century, AT&T, Buffalo Wild Wings, Cisco, Comcast, Denver Children’s Hospital, Honeywell, Invesco, Johns Manville, Kellogg, Merck, Pfizer, Rio Tinto, RR Donnelly, Saudi Aramco, Shell Oil, Sun Microsystems, and Williams Energy.

Prior to RBL, Mark was the founder and president of Concinnity Consulting, an organization design and alignment firm based in Denver, CO. In this capacity he worked with numerous organizations in strategic restructuring as well as development of key executives and their teams.

Martha Liliana Ruiz

Martha is an Associate Principal at The RBL Group since 2008.  She has participated in different projects and programs for clients like BBVA, Citibank, Florida Power & Light, Novartis, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Velux, Baxter, Royal Sun Alliance and Mondelez International among others.  Additionally, she has been supporting the development of the Latin America client base by customizing services and products for that market. 

She has significant experience in developing, implementing and managing human resources, talent and leadership initiatives, including consulting and coaching,  as well as facilitating training and strategic sessions. 

Martha has demonstrated skills supporting executive teams in organizational assessment and development of their roles in different organizations. Her focus is to support clients in the delivery of a value proposition for their organizations. 


Before becoming a consultant, Martha accumulated over 10 years of comprehensive work experience in Human Resources Management, working for multinational companies like Microsoft and Schering AG. In her different roles she had the opportunity to collaborate with senior management, conducting Human Resources strategic planning and managing organizational transitions and changes to support corporate goals. 

Prior to joining The RBL Group she worked as a consultant for HPI Colombia, a consulting firm representing RBL, DBM, SMG, Team Resources, and Bigby Havis in the region, where she participated in projects involving career management, transition and change, teambuilding and competency development for a wide range of clients in private and public sectors. 

Martha has a degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Organizational Psychology. 

She lives with her family in Miami, Florida.

Michael Phillips


Michael is a principal with the RBL Group.  His work is focused on leadership development and organizational change management and creating high performance individuals and organizations through performance and talent management.  He is an expert in the development and roll-out of on-line performance and talent management systems.  He consults extensively with organizations as they work to develop stronger leadership and deal with significant change. Known for his dynamic teaching, lecturing, and group facilitation, Michael has designed and taught courses for every level of learner, from grade-schoolers through graduate students, working professionals and retirees.  Prior to his consulting career, Michael was a university professor.  He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.  Michael is the author or editor of more than 35 books, articles and reviews and has served on the boards of several associations and foundations.  The recipient of numerous research grants and awards, he worked for the May Department Stores Company prior to his academic career.  He is the former Managing Director of the Center for Leadership Solutions.  He is married to the internationally known choreographer Rebecca Wright Phillips and they have three children.

Michael has taught, trained and lectured throughout the United States, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He has coached and trained hundreds of corporate leaders throughout the world and has helped design change initiatives and strategies at a number of major corporations.  He also does a great deal of work in curriculum and instructional design.

Nate Thompson

Nate is a Principal with the RBL Group and the CFO (Chief Fun Officer). His areas of expertise include building high value-added business strategies together with powerfully aligned and actionable implementation plans. He helps companies identify and create organization capabilities that will add the greatest value to customers and shareholders. Nate does extensive work helping senior leaders analyze their company’s leadership and HR competency models to bring them into alignment with their overall business strategy. His work focuses on aligning the internal behaviors of leaders and employees with the expectations of key external stakeholders to create a powerful leadership brand for the organization.

During his time at RBL, Nate has developed an impressive list of corporate clients. These include LG, Mobily, CIBC, Gap, Dow, Nokia, Kerzner International, Raytheon, Siemens AG, Roger’s Communications, United Technologies, Pfizer, Novartis, Avon, DHL, Statoil, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the Singapore Ministry of Manpower, and several others.

Before coming to RBL, Nate worked at Intel where he had considerable experience in survey design, analysis, customer experience, and channel marketing. He supervised efforts to link the mind-set and practices on the inside of the company with market requirements on the outside. In this role he worked closely with line executives on the inside and with targeted customer groups on the outside.

He has worked in countries throughout the world including Taiwan, China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, Germany, France, UK, Latin America, Canada, and the US. He speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese and holds a master’s degree in business management and organizational behavior.

Norm Smallwood

Norm Smallwood is a recognized authority in developing businesses and their leaders to deliver results and increase value. His current work relates to increasing business value by building “outside in” organization, leadership, and people capabilities that measurably impact market value. In 2000, Norm co-founded The RBL Group with Dave Ulrich.

Norm partners with clients to increase the contribution of people to the business by aligning the organization to foster high performance cultures that resonates with customers. Outputs include distinctive organization capabilities and recognizable leadership brand.  Success is defined as increased confidence in future by investors, customers and employees.  This translates in publicly traded firms to a higher stock price and a strong reputation for the business.

In 2010, the Harvard Business Review recognized Norm in an ad for the magazine as doing “innovative and ground-breaking work on effective leadership.”

Norm has co-authored eight books: Real-Time Strategy, Results-Based Leadership, How Leaders Build Value, Change Champions Field Guide, Leadership Brand, Leadership Code, and Leadership Sustainability. Harvard Business School Press will publish his latest book, Agile Talent, coauthored with Jon Younger in February 2016.  He has published more than a hundred articles in leading journals and newspapers including Washington Post, Forbes, Harvard Business Review and Financial Times and has contributed chapters and Forewords to multiple books. Norm has been a frequent blogger on HBR Online where his blog on Personal Leader Brand was highlighted as one of ten most read of 2010.

Norm was a faculty member in executive education at the University of Michigan in the Ross School of Management between 2001 and 2003.

For several years, Leadership Excellence magazine has ranked Norm as one of the top 100 Global Voices in Leadership and the RBL Group as one of the top leadership development firms in the world.

Prior to co-founding the RBL Group, Norm was a founding partner of Novations Group, Inc. where he led business strategy, organization design, and human resource management projects for a wide variety of clients spanning multiple industries. Before this, he was an organization development professional at Procter and Gamble in a start up business in Georgia and in Calgary, Alberta with Esso Resources Canada. Norm and his wife Tricia enjoy their children and grandchildren as well as their wide variety of pets including two Great Danes, three cats and a school of koi fish.


T. Owen Jacobs

Senior Fellow

Dr. T. Owen Jacobs is currently an RBL Senior Fellow, Executive Leadership Assessment and Development. From 1995 to 2005, he held the Leo Cherne Distinguished Visiting Professor of Behavioral Science Chair at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University. There, he taught courses in Strategic Leadership, and Creative and Critical Thinking. He also created and directed the College’s Executive Assessment and Development Program. From 1974 to 2005, Dr. Jacobs served in a series of assignments with the U. S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, where he completed landmark research on strategic performance requirements and the developmental processes required to produce strategic leadership skills. He began research on leadership in 1957 with Carl Lange, developing a social learning theory-based concept of the functional roles of leaders in groups. Dr. Jacobs received the B.A. and M.A. degrees from Vanderbilt University, and the Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Throughout his career as an Industrial Psychologist, Dr. Owens Jacobs has researched and collected data on the connections between personality, interpersonal skills and conceptual ability with leader effectiveness. In addition to developing a leadership assessment battery while working with ICAF in the 1990’s, he also conducted developmental feedback for students and certified faculty to provide developmental feedback to students.

After leaving ICAF, Dr. Jacobs re-engineered the MENTOR® Leadership Assessment to specifically target identifying the key leadership attributes that predict leader success in both public and private sector organizations. The particular instruments chosen for inclusion in the MENTOR® system, and the attributes they assess, are designed to enable the discovery of specific developmental needs at the middle, senior and top executive level and are considered highly predictive of future leader success.

Dr. Jacobs has more than a decade of experience interpreting psychometric profiles in the context of competency-based professional development. He authored the expert system underlying the MENTOR® Leadership Assessment and the handbook used for teaching how to interpret measures from the Battery.  He has conducted developmental sessions for hundreds of students and senior leaders using reports generated by the MENTOR® expert system.

Tricia Smallwood

Speakers Bureau

Tricia began her career as an educator over 30 years ago, first as a writer, then as a speaker, and eventually as a marketer.  During that time, she served as VP of Marketing for Prime Learning International and International Consultants, designing workshops and marketing some of the nations top speakers.

She became RBL’s first employee in 1999 and remains Norm Smallwood’s boss to this day. During the past 11 years at RBL she has worn many hats, including running HR. She developed RBL’s speaker’s service and continues in that capacity. This position supplies her endless opportunities to learn and to meet great people. Tricia’s hobbies include travel, showing Great Danes, and managing her Koi pond.

Wayne Brockbank

Emeritus Principal

Dr. Wayne Brockbank is the first partner emeritus of The RBL Group.  Professor Brockbank has made significant contributions as a Clinical Professor of Business at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and as a consultant and executive educator at The RBL Group.

Wayne’s research, consulting and teaching made important contributions to strategic human resource management strategy and implementation, and international business.  As a researcher, he co-authored four ground breaking books: Competencies for the New HR (2003), HR Value Proposition (2005), HR Competencies (2007) and HR Transformation (2009).  These books were based on the 20 year long research project on HR Competencies. He has also published significant articles in Human Resource Management Journal, Human Resource Planning, Harvard Business Review and Personnel Administrator and has contributed numerous book chapters. In 1989, 1996 and 2000, he received the best HR paper of the year from the Society of Human Resource Management and the Human Resource Planning Society.

As an educator, at the University of Michigan’s Executive Education Center, Wayne directed the Director of the Center for Strategic Human Resource Leadership.  He was the Faculty Director of the Strategic Human Resource Planning Program and Co-Director of the Advanced Human Resource Executive Program and the Human Resource Executive Program.  These executive programs are consistently rated over the last twenty years as the best HR executive programs in the United States and Europe by the Wall Street Journal, Business Week and Leadership Excellence.  He was also the founding Faculty Director of the Michigan Global Executive MBA.

He is also the Director of the Michigan Human Resource Executive Programs in Hong Kong, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and India as well as the Michigan Global Program in Management Development in India.  And, he is a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Business Administration at Instituto De Altos Estudios Empresariales (Argentina) and has taught in university executive programs in Australia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, England, Korea, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, China, Malaysia, Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria. 

Professor Brockbank has also contributed to the development of the field of strategic HR management.
