The Challenge
Innovation. Business leaders today recognize that, even in down markets, they cannot save their way to success. They must innovate. Innovation has become a must do for most companies. In this two-‐day “Think Tank” we will address five questions that will improve a participant’s ability to innovate.

Session Overview
1. Why does innovation matter? We will talk about the importance of innovation as a key business initiative. We will ask participants in the session to build a “case for innovation” in their companies.
2. What are the types of innovation? There are many types of approaches to innovation. We will discuss 10 types of innovation and offer suggestions on how to make innovation happen for each of these 10 types of innovation.
3. What is an innovation culture? A company creates a culture of innovation. This culture reviews norms or patterns within the company that are consistent with innovation. At this session we will review how companies have prepared this innovation culture.
4. How do we increase the ability of individuals to be innovative? Drawing on recent work by Dyer, Gregerson, and Christensen, we will talk about the DNA of innovators. We will suggest that innovators have the ability to both design and deliver innovation.  We will share 5 specific tools for increasing the ability to be creative and innovative.
5. How do we build the organization infrastructure for sustaining innovation? Innovation can be sustained when HR practices are aligned with innovation. We will go through HR practices in staffing, promotion, training, rewards, communication, and organization structure that will drive and sustain innovation.

Session Outcomes
The purpose of this workshop is to generate new and fresh ideas for these five questions. As faculty, we will facilitate discussions among participants. Attendees at this Think Tank will leave with the ability to increase innovation within their company. This ability will help them innovate business models, administrative processes, products and services, and customer relationships. HR professionals can become valued contributors for innovation by building both individual ability and organization capability. And as in all RBL Institute Think Tanks, we envision an open discussion more than a prescribed solutions where we co-‐create and co-‐learn.
